President Ashraf Ghani in a meeting on Sunday announced that the government will release up to 2,000 Taliban prisoners as a goodwill gesture in response to the Taliban's calling for a three-day ceasefire, and the president also pledged to take further steps in the peace process. 

The Ministry of Public Health on Sunday reported 584 new cases of COVID-19 out of 1,206 samples tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 10,582 and adding to the concerns of experts who insist health measures be taken seriously to stop the spread of the virus.
