APL Starts Thursday: Toofan Harirod vs. De Abasin Sape

Toofan Harirod will face De Abasin Sape in the opening match of the ninth season of Afghanistan's football league—the Afghan Premier League (APL)--on Thursday. 

The opening ceremony will start at 5 pm Afghan time and will be aired live on TOLO and Lemar TV networks. The match will kick-off at 6 pm. 

“Toofan Harirod has trained. We have our plan and tactics and the team is 100 percent ready,” said the head coach of Toofan Harirod, Mohammad Yousuf Mohandis Zada, at a press conference ahead of Thursday’s match. 

"Tomorrow we will have a good match,” said Mohandis Zada. 

Hamidullah Masoudi, the head coach of De Abasin Sape, said that changes have been brought to his team this year. He said that Toofan Harirod “is a good team,” but his team is also ready for the match. 

The draw for the 2020 season to determine the league groupings was held in Kabul on Friday. 

The teams will compete in two groups.  

On Friday, Shaheen Asmayee will face Simorgh Alborz in the second match of the season.

Shaheen Asmayee, De Maiwand Atalan, Toofan Harirod, Simorgh Alborz, Mawjhai Amu, De Spinghar Bazan, De Abasin Sape, and Oqaban Hindukosh are the eight APL teams representing all 34 provinces of Afghanistan. 

Last year, Toofan Harirod from the west zone won the league title. Toofan Harirod has won the title three times.  

APL was launched eight years ago and starts with regional selection tournaments in various areas of the country, and then ends with eighteen national league matches in Kabul. 

This year the league matches will continue until October 16.
