Afghan, Iranian Athletes Attend 'Fight Night' MMA Competition

Afghan mixed martial arts fighters Ismail Haidari, Wahidullah Nazhand and Faramarz Mohammad as well as Iran's Shaheen Najafi defeated their rivals in the eleventh round of mixed martial arts (MMA) competitions on Friday.

Four Afghan and three Iranian fighters competed in the competition also called as Fight Night that was organized by MOBY Group in association with the Snow Leopard Fighting Championship (SLFC) to promote mixed martial arts and introduce MMA to the public.

Ismail Haidari from Afghanistan and Ali Yusufi from Iran competed first in the competition. Haidari defeated Yusufi in the third round by a knockout.

The two competed in the 65 kilograms of weight category.

The next fight was against Faramarz Mohammad from Afghanistan and Sajjad Abbasi from Iran in which Faramarz defeated his Iranian rival.

The third match was between Abdul Ahad Farooqi from Afghanistan and Shaheen Najafi from Iran in which Najafi defeated his Afghan rival by a knockout.

The fourth and the main match was between Afghan MMA titleholder Wahidullah Nazhand and ZakI Rasuli.

They competed in five rounds and Nazhand was announced the winner by the referee.

Nazhand submitted his title to the Afghan security forces to honor their sacrifices in the fight against militants and in ensuring the safety of the people.
