Afghan Climbers, Including 6-Year-Old Boy, Aim for Shah Foladi

‏A group of five Afghan mountaineers are on their way to scale Shah Foladi, a high peak in Bamyan province, said officials of the mountaineering federation on Wednesday.

According to the officials, all preparations have been taken to complete the 5-day mission.

“The trip will take five days. We aim to conquer Shah Foladi peak,” said climber Ahmad Shuaib Samimi.

“An athlete should continue training and doing sports in any condition and under any government,” said Hasan Rezaie, a climber.

Among the climbers is Amir Ali, a 6-year old boy, accompanied by his father, Ahmad Shuaib Samimi.

Amir Ali started mountaineering with his father when he was 3 years old.

About two months ago, Amir Ali succeeded in climbing a peak in the Salang mountains that is 4,500 meters high. “I am the smallest climber in Afghanistan, I want to conquer Shah Foladi," he said.

Amir Ali's father, Ahmad Shuaib Samimi, said that he has big dreams for his son. “I have big plans for Amir Ali to acquire national and international records. He would be the only child who has conquered Shah Foladi,” he said.

Shah Foladi is a snow-covered valley in the Koh-e-Baba mountains, the peak is more than 5,000m high above sea level.
