The Afghanistan national snooker team is preparing for the prestigious Snooker World Championship Mongolia.
Today (Tuesday) in Kabul, the final selection matches concluded, revealing the top four players who will represent Afghanistan at the World Cup in Mongolia. The Afghan Snooker Federation reported that twenty athletes from Kabul, Nangarhar, and Herat provinces competed over two weeks to secure their spots for the global event.
Shakib Sakhi, Secretary General of the Afghan Snooker Federation, stated, "The World Cup in Mongolia will feature both full-ball and six-ball events. The National Olympic Committee will support our four players in these competitions."
In the final selection match, experienced player Saleh Mohammad Mohammadi was defeated by Ahmad Idris Rasouli with a score of 4-6. Additionally, Hussain from Kabul emerged victorious over Zarif from Herat to claim the championship title.
National snooker players have highlighted the importance of hosting these competitions to enhance athletes' experience and have urged for continued support for the sport. Ahmad Idris Rasouli noted, "These competitions are a significant step towards Mongolia. The level of play was very high, with athletes from three provinces competing."
Saleh Mohammad Mohammadi added, "We hope the government will provide support and invest in our players. With the right backing, I am confident we can achieve great results in snooker in the future."
Alongside the selection for the World Cup, a local snooker competition in Kabul also concluded, featuring players from Kabul, Nangarhar, and Herat provinces.
The Snooker World Cup, which will see athletes from various countries compete, is set to commence in Mongolia in a month.
