Athletes and fans of Afghan cricket have criticized politicians from England and South Africa who are calling to boycott matches with Afghanistan’s cricket team.
They emphasized their support for Afghanistan's players and national cricket team, stating that cricket should not be linked to politics.
These views arose due to allegations of women's rights violations by Afghanistan's interim government.
"Afghan cricket has been bringing smiles to people for many years. We ask the international community and officials of this sport on a global level not to politicize sports,” said Milad Azizi, one of the country’s athletes, said about cricket.
"My request to foreign countries is not to politicize sports, especially cricket, gymnastics, volleyball, and football, as athletes in these disciplines are ambassadors of peace,” said Shafi, a veteran athlete.
Some residents of the capital also told TOLOnews that sports, particularly cricket, bring smiles to them and should be supported.
"The Afghan national cricket team has achieved many successes, but certain individuals with agendas want to politicize this sport,” said Lima Shirzai, a cricket fan," said Lima Shirzai, a cricket fan.
"In Afghanistan, people love cricket so much that no one has the power to stop it,” said Islam Totakhil, a cricket expert.
Some politicians from England and South Africa claim that, due to women's rights violations in Afghanistan, the England team should not play against Afghanistan's cricket team. However, these requests were recently rejected by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and England’s cricket board.
Meanwhile, some fans and political figures, including former President Hamid Karzai, have reacted to this issue, stating that sports should be kept separate from political matters.
