Afghanistan Bags Two Gold Medals In Taekwondo Champs

Afghanistan this week clinched two golds and two bronze medals in the 2018 Jeju Korea Open International Taekwondo Championships, Afghanistan’s Taekwondo Federation officials confirmed.

Nisar Ahmad Abdul Rahimzai and Farzad Mansoori both clinched gold while Rezaye and Ramesh Hussaini each bagged a bronze medal.

Rahimzai won his gold medal after beating opponents from USA and two from Taiwan.

“I am dedicating my medal … that I won after beating my rivals,” he said.

Mansoori meanwhile bagged gold after beating fellow contenders from Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Thailand.

The Afghan team’s coach, Bashir Taraki, praised the team after the tournament and said: “I hope that Afghanistan’s taekwondo team makes our people happy."

The Korea Open International Taekwondo Championships was held in Jeju in South Korea and around 2,600 athletes from 65 countries participated.

Four athletes from Afghanistan took part in the championships that wrapped up on Monday after three days of competition.

Afghanistan’s team will meanwhile head for Indonesia next month to take part in another tournament.

From now until then, the team will be in training for their next competition, their coach said.
