At least 50 lifesavers, from 22 swimming pools across Kabul, are taking part in a three-day training camp, which started on Saturday. 

The lifesavers, who are also swimming instructors, will learn new techniques and hone their existing skills.  

The aim of the training camp is to increase the skills level of these lifesavers and lower the drowning rate at swimming pools in the country. 

The National Swimming Federation has organized this event and said the lifesavers will have to pass a test on the final day of the training camp. 

“Swimmers from 22 swimming pools in Kabul City have attended this event today. The lifesavers will go through a test on the last day of the camp and will then be given certificates,” said Qasim Hamidi, head of the federation.

The lifesavers also said they hope the training camp will improve their skills. 

“The techniques and skills which we will learn in this workshop will help us save lives,” said Ahmad Zaman, one of the lifesavers.  

“This training camp will help raise awareness and increase our skills,” said another lifesaver, Arash.

The workshop will also be held in Herat and Balkh provinces in the next few weeks.
