West Indies Takes 1-0 Lead Over Afghanistan in First ODI Match

West Indies takes a 1-0 lead over Afghanistan with the first ODI match on Wednesday at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, India.

West Indies chose to bowl first after winning the toss. The West Indies team got the perfect start after  it removed both of Afghanistan’s openers with Just 15 runs.

But Afghanistan rallied, with Rahmat Shah and Ikram Ali Khil putting on 111 for the third wicket, with both making half-centuries.

Afghanistan’s Najibullah Zadran caught at slip three balls after Alikhel was run out and Afghanistan never fully recovered.

West Indies’ Holder then dismissed Mohammad Nabi before Asghar Afghan and Gulbadin Naib put on 33 to take Afghanistan close to 200.

Afghanistan’s team set a target of 195 and the West Indies team made it by 7 wickets and won the first ODI match.

West Indies started with Evin Lewis and Shimron Hetmyer falling inside eight overs, but Shai Hope and Chase made up for it with a 163-run.

Chase scored at a strike rate in excess of 80 while Hope crawled along at just above a run every two balls. The No.4 also more than doubled the opener’s boundary tally.

Afghanistan is hosting the West Indies in the northern Indian city of Lucknow for three ODIs, three T20s and a one-off test.
