TAWDE KHABARE: Release of Prisoners Discussed

The Afghan government is reportedly set to complete the release of 5,000 Taliban prisoners by the end of June.

Government sources told TOLOnews that 3,000 prisoners have been released so far, but the process of releasing the remaining 2,000 Taliban prisoners will begin soon.

Suhail Shaheen, spokesman for the Taliban’s political office in Qatar tweeted on Wednesday: ”Today, 35 members of the (Afghan govt) were released from the custody of the (Taliban) and sent to their families after receiving assistance.”

The Taliban have said they will be ready for talks in a week if all prisoners are released.

But there are still questions about whether the Taliban will return to the battlefield

There is also the question of why the level of violence has not decreased even after the release of prisoners.

Meanwhile, there are rumors that the Taliban has appointed new delegates in the Qatar office for the Afghan talks.

In this episode, host Noorwali Saeed Shinwarai discusses the topic with the following guests:

Abdul Ahad Sartib, member of the peace movement

Amanullah Hotaki, Taliban-focused analyst

Attaullah Khan, head of Afghan rights oversight group, Human Rights Research and Advocacy Consortium (HRRAC)
