Donald Trump has become the President of the United States for a second time, so far securing 277 electoral college votes. Meanwhile, Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate, managed to secure only 224 electoral votes in the count so far.
In addition to the presidential election, the United States also held elections for the House of Representatives and Senate seats. The Republicans, after four years, regained the majority in the Senate.
Before the official announcement, Trump declared himself the President of the United States. Speaking in Florida, he said: “I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honor of being elected your 47th president and your 45th president. And every citizen. I will fight for you, for your family and your future. Every single day I will be fighting for you and with every breath in my body. I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe and prosperous America that our children deserve and that you deserve.”
The election began in the US on Tuesday morning local time and continued late into the night.
According to announced results, Republicans secured 51% of Senate seats, while Democrats held 42%.
The European Union and NATO leaders, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Ukraine, India, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and other countries congratulated Trump on his victory in the 2024 US presidential election.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said: “Donald Trump has won the election. We congratulate him on this. Germany, Europe and the United States are close partners and allies. Yet our transatlantic friendship has never been tied to one party. At the same time, it is the nature of democracy that after elections, both domestic political conditions and foreign policy relations are readjusted."
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Iran’s presidency stated that the election of a new US president would have no impact on Iran. Fatemeh Mohajerani, the spokesperson, said: “The election of the US president does not concern us. The core policies of the US and the Islamic Republic remain constant and do not significantly change with different individuals. We have already prepared accordingly.”
Donald Trump is expected to enter the White House as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, 2025.
