The United Nations has issued a new report on Gaza, warning of the dire living conditions facing Palestinians and Israelis.
According to the report, approximately 70% of those killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza are women and children, which the UN recognizes as a clear violation of international humanitarian law.
The restriction on delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza is also cited as a primary factor behind the increasing number of fatalities in the region.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk has called on Israel to immediately adhere to international laws and principles of warfare.
Türk has also requested that reputable international courts investigate and prosecute violations of international law and acts of violence in Gaza.
The report highlights the violence in Gaza from November 2023 to April 2024, noting that if the violence is found to be intentional, it could be classified as a war crime.
“The International Court of Justice (ICJ), in its series of orders on provisional measures, underscored the international obligations of Israel to prevent, protect against and punish acts of genocide and associated prohibited conduct,” the report said.
Volker Türk has called on countries around the world to take action to prevent such injustices and to support international judicial mechanisms, including the International Court of Justice.
