Thousands of American citizens in various cities, including Washington D.C. and Chicago, held large-scale protests to express their opposition to the policies of Donald Trump’s administration.
Protesters chanted slogans in front of the White House, objecting to Trump’s policies, particularly in areas such as immigration, foreign policy, and internal restrictions.
One protester, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "We've got this oligarch from South Africa, stripping all of our society elements that are for the people, and trying to aggrandize it for a minority of powerful and rich, in a rigged system that benefits them and not us."
Ilene Conrad, another protester, said: "They have outlawed the use of certain words and phrases. They are arresting people for voicing their opinions. It has got to stop. That's our country's premise, freedom of speech."
Protesters chanted in front of the White House and condemned Trump’s policies regarding the suppression of free speech, mass dismissals from government institutions, cuts to the federal budget, and the wars in Gaza and Ukraine. They also protested pressures on universities and social movements.
Greg Gold, a protester: "I am here protesting Donald Trump and his corrupt government which is taking away all of our democracy. That's what this sign is about, that is what he is doing for our democracy."
John Rizzo, another protester: "The only thing I can say is that I felt so powerless, so helpless for some time now, and this really kind of makes me feel good. There's an electricity in the air, so it is exciting, it makes me feel empowered."
Since Donald Trump resumed office in January of this year, his administration, along with billionaire ally Elon Musk, has dismissed over 200,000 government employees and initiated efforts to dismantle certain federal institutions.
These actions have faced widespread criticism from unions and civil organizations.
Human rights groups have also issued statements condemning these policies, calling them a clear violation of democratic principles and human rights.
