Muttaqi: 'Progress' Being Made Toward Intl Recognition

Amir Khan Muttaqi, acting foreign minister, said the Islamic Emirate is gaining progress toward gaining international recognition.

In an interview with AFP, Muttaqi said talks with other countries are taking place.

“On the progress toward getting recognition, recognition results in increase exchange, trade and engagement between countries and we have made good progress on that front. Our understandings and talks that we have had with everyone, we have had good achievements and that is a progress, we have come closer to that goal,” said Muttaqi.

Muttaqi further said the international community is seeking to interact with the Islamic Emirate politically and the Afghan government has sent the message that they can open their embassies in Kabul.

“Our message to them was that they can open their embassies in Kabul and have normal relations with us. Some of them have already opened and other will open. Some will partially open,” he told AFP.

Muttaqi’s claims come as a delegation of the Islamic Emirate met with representatives of the US, European countries and European Union representatives as well as with Afghan women activists over various topics in Oslo last month.

Rina Amiri, the US special envoy for Afghan women, has recently said the "unjust detentions" must stop, referring to reports of the alleged detained of Afghan women protesters. "If the Taliban seek legitimacy from the Afghan people and the world, they must respect Afghans’ human rights - especially for women - including the freedom of expression and immediately release these women, their relatives and other activists," Amiri wrote.
