Mujahid: Investigation Will Determine Retirees' Right to Pensions

The Islamic Emirate said that the pensions of retired government workers will be confirmed after investigations of Dar al-Ifta (Islamic advisory, justiciary and governmental body).

The Islamic Emirate's spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid, said that as the issue of paying retirees' pensions involves Sharia requirements, Dar al-Ifta's investigations are needed.

"The budget includes a quota for retirees. The issue is that some retiree-related matters had Sharia aspects. It has been directed to the Islamic Emirate's Dar Al-Ifta to investigate them and present the result to the authorities,” Mujahid noted.

In the meantime, some retirees once again criticize the delay in paying their pensions and said that after almost two years their pensions have not been paid yet.

“We ask Amirul Momineen, the Ministry of Finance, the Department of Pensions and all the officials of the Islamic Emirate to pay the retirees as soon as possible,” said Abdul Jalil Muradi, a retired employee.

“It's been two years or twenty months that the retirees have not been paid. We have no bread to eat,” said Abdul Qayoum, a retired employee.

Janat Gul, who has worked for many years in a government institution, criticizes what he considers to be the non-payment of his pension.

He said that in order to provide for his family of ten, he had to turn to collecting plastic bottles.

“They don't pay our pensions. I have ten family members, my son was martyred during Karzai's time and we have orphans,” Janat Gul added.

Previously, the Ministry of Finance said that retirees' pensions will be included in the 1402 (solar year) budget and will be paid.
