The Interior Ministry said that more than 30 human traffickers have been detained within the past 6 months.
The spokesman for the Interior Ministry, Abdul Matin Qani, said that the interim government is committed to stamping out human trafficking in the country.
"During the recent six months, at least 28 cases of human trafficking has been registered with the police. The counter-narcotics police have identified and detained around 32 suspects,” he said.
Footage leaked to the media show Afghans face dire conditions on the way.
“The human traffickers sell the people. They sold me and I was detained for two days,” said Abdullah, a passenger.
“I have been deported four times as of now. I saw murders on the way,” said Najibullah, a passenger.
Meanwhile, some of the families interviewed by TOLOnews in Kabul said that their relatives lost their lives while crossing the borders through illegal paths.
“We received reports that my niece had been killed and her husband has been injured," said Hamid, uncle of one of the individuals who lost their life in an illegal crossing.
In July 2022, the US State Department in its annual report included Afghanistan on the list of countries engaged in a "policy or pattern" of human trafficking and forced labor or whose security forces or government-backed armed groups recruit or use child soldiers.
