Pakistani Minister: Good Relations Depend on Islamic Emirate’s Actions

Pakistan’s caretaker minister for information, broadcasting and parliamentary affairs said that the future of relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan depends on the behavior and actions of Kabul.

Speaking with an Indian media outlet, Murtaza Solangi said if the Islamic Emirate continues "harboring" terrorist groups, the future of bilateral relations will not be so bright.

“When it comes to the future relationship between Afghanistan and Pakistan, it squarely depends upon the behavior and actions of the interim government of Afghanistan. If they [Islamic Emirate] continue harboring terrorists of different views and shapes including TTP, I am afraid the future of those relationships is not too bright.” Said Murtaza Solangi, Pakistan’s caretaker minister for information, broadcasting, and parliamentary affairs.

The Islamic Emirate has not yet reacted to the Pakistan minister’s recent remarks, but repeatedly pledges that Afghanistan’s soil will not be used to threaten other countries.
The spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate said that they want good relations with all countries including Pakistan.

“The Islamic Emirate has good relations with neighboring countries especially with Pakistan. But there are still some issues in between that need to be resolved,” the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, Zabiullah Mujahid, told TOLOnews.

Political analysts said that positive bilateral relations between the two countries benefit both, but said that Islamabad should stop making unfounded claims.

“To create coordination between two countries and a regional consensus, there needs to exist a joint committee especially for relations with Pakistan,” said Javid Momand, a political analyst.
“The Pakistan’s interim government ought to seek negotiations rather than making such baseless claims,” said another political analyst, Najiburahman Shamal.

Earlier, the leader of Pakistan's Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party has said that the Islamic Emirate has asked for a joint strategy to resolve issues between Kabul and Islamabad.

While speaking with a Pakistani media outlet, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman confirmed that the Pakistan’s interim government has also considered this suggestion as fair.
