Local officials in Herat said that 13 new villages have been built for earthquake-affected families in the province.

According to officials, 387 houses have been built in these 13 villages at a cost of 120 million afghani from the caretaker government budget.

Ahmadullah Muttaqi, the head of Information of Herat, told TOLOnews: “There are approximately 387 houses that the Islamic Emirate and the Earthquake Victims Commission had signed a contract for with a company, and today they have been completed and all the expenses have been paid by the Islamic Emirate.”

Mohammad Rafi Shayan, head of a construction company, said about these villages: “On the roofs of these houses, boards are used so that if there is an earthquake, our fellow citizens and our people will not be harmed from the roof areas.”

Each of these houses has two rooms and a hallway. These houses have saved earthquake victims from living under tents.

But the lack of health services, a water supply system, bathrooma, schools and mosques in the new villages is considered a serious problem for the earthquake victims.

“We don't have a mosque, we don't have a clinic, we don't have a water supply, and all these things are lacking for us,” said Ghulam Hazrat, a Zinda Jan resident.

"We don't have a bathroom, we don't have a kitchen, we don't have a mosque, we don't have a school, these things are lacking,” said Ghulam Nabi, a resident.

According to the local officials of Herat, during the past three months, nearly 4 thousand houses have been built for earthquake victims in this province. These houses were built in 85 earthquake affected villages in Zinda Jan, Injil, Kushk/Robat-Sangi, and Gulran districts.

The local officials of Herat pledged that in the spring they would build houses for other earthquake victims in this province.
