Deputy PM Calls for Expanded Demining Efforts in Afghanistan

April 4 marks the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action.

The head of the Demining Department of State Ministry for Disaster Management in a mine awareness program and assistant in demining affairs, says that in the past year, 308 explosion incidents have occurred, resulting in 555 casualties.

Nooruddin Rostamkhil adds that identifying vulnerable points necessitates serious cooperation from demining organizations and institutions.

The head of the Demining Department of State Ministry for Disaster Management, Nooruddin Rostamkhil, said: “308 incidents of explosion recorded in 2023 which had 555 casualties across Afghanistan,”

The General Director of Finance and Administration of State Ministry for Disaster Management Abdul Rahman Zahid, said on the matter: “The time has come for Afghanistan to develop through plannings, different plans, programs and implementation of projects,”

Speaking at the program, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate for political affairs said that Afghanistan is among the countries that, despite fighting this phenomenon, the dangers of mines have not yet been reduced to zero.

Mawlawi Abdul Kabir also asks demining organizations and institutions to expand their activities using the current security situation.

Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, said: “The Islamic Emirate supports demining and asks for implementation of such projects using the current secure situation,”

On the other hand, the acting head of the general directorate of the Islamic Emirate in Administrative Affairs said that the entry of mines and explosive materials into Afghanistan has been prevented and there is no risk of an increase.

Noorulhaq Anwar also adds that the Islamic Emirate is striving to ensure unity in the country.

“The current government’s behavior is to ensure unity, love and affection among people. And that cruelty and barbarism be ended,” he said.

Representative of demining institutions in Afghanistan, Mohammad Shahab Hakimi said: “Not only here but Afghan youth are talented deminers abroad as well,”

Based on the information from demining institutions, eighty percent of Afghanistan's territory has been cleared of unexploded mines, and ten million people have been given awareness about this.
