8 Local Force Members Killed in Nangarhar

At least six local police force members were killed and five others were wounded in a Taliban attack in Pachir Aw Agam district in the eastern province of Nangarhar on Monday evening, the provincial governor’s office said in a statement.

Three Taliban were also killed in the clash, said the statement.

The Taliban has not commented on the incident.

Meanwhile, two local army soldiers were killed in an attack by “Lashkar-e-Islam terrorist group’s” fighters (based in Pakistan) on their outpost in Nazian district in Nangarhar, the statement added.

This comes amid the ongoing peace efforts by the Afghan government. As part of these efforts, President Ashraf Ghani on Monday signed the decree for the release of 400 high-value Taliban prisoners. The intra-Afghan negotiations are expected to begin in Doha, Qatar following the release of these prisoners.
