Criminal Networks Have Political Support: Andarabi

Afghan acting Minister of Interior Massoud Andarabi has said that the criminal networks in the country are supported by politicians and local strongmen and that the Interior Ministry is pursuing the arrests of the economic and political supporters of the criminal networks in the country by gathering documentation against them.

“We pledge to the residents in Kabul we will arrest them on the spot and with evidence,” said Andarabi.

This comes hours after two Afghan policemen were killed and one was wounded in a criminal attack in PD5 of Kabul.

“The police crackdown against criminal networks has increased in Kabul. They had a series of movements on the outskirts of the city, but they were responded to strongly by the police,” said Andarabi.

The Interior Ministry also announced the dismissal of a police inspector in PD5 after the criminal attack.

Residents in Kabul have accused the security officials of dealing with criminal cases politically.

“We see people carrying guns on their shoulders like thugs, it is not known who these people are,” said Zaryalai Karimi, a resident in Kabul.

“We don’t know what to do with this government, what will be our future in such a situation,” said Faiz Mohammad, a resident in Kabul.

“He came (an attacker) and said 'give me money,' I said, 'I don’t have any,' then he slapped me,” said Murtaza, a resident in Kabul.

“Why aren't the police cooperating with the people, why are they negligent?” said Jawad, a resident in Kabul.
