Ghani Pledges to Restore Flood-Damaged Infrastructure in Parwan

President Ashraf Ghani during a trip to Parwan province on Thursday pledged to restore infrastructure in the flood-damaged areas of the province.

Last week flash floods hit 15 provinces in Afghanistan, and Parwan was the hardest hit. By the latest count, the floods killed 250 people across the country and injured 300 others, according to Afghan government numbers.

Ghani met those residents affected by the floods and promised to address their hardships and needs.

“My commitment to you (Parwan residents) is to create a clear plan for Charikar city which will cover all the affected areas,” said Ghani.

“Regarding shelters (the president) has clear plans, but addressing each single family is a technical issue,” said Ghani’s first vice president Amrullah Saleh, who accompanied the president to Parwan.

Recent floods in Parwan province left at least 150 people dead and 300 more wounded.

The floods also destroyed dozens of houses.

Amina, 15, is a resident of Parwan who has been displaced alongside her two sisters due to the recent floods.

“We request that the government provides us with shelter and paves the way for us to continue our education,” said Amina.
