Hydroelectric Project Inaugurated In Kunduz

A hydroelectric and irrigation dam project, which produces 10 megawatts of power and irrigates over 18,000 hectares of land, was inaugurated in Kunduz, the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) said in a press release on Saturday.

According to the ministry, the hydropower project, Nahr Gawkush Dam, was designed during former Afghan president Daud Khan's reign.

The ministry said the project costs one million euros funded by the European Union.

Nahr Gawkush Dam is 35 kilometers in length, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, the ministry inaugurated two irrigation projects in Surkh Rod district in Nangarhar, which will help irrigate over 2000 hectares of land in the province.
