Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital and largest city, has experienced major ups and downs over the course of time. 

With the influx of people from urban areas, Kabul now faces numerous challenges and today signs of lawlessness are clearly visible. 
 
Kabul residents have said that lawlessness has sharply increased in the city and powerful elements are hindering the implementation of city projects by the Kabul municipality. 
 
After assuming office, President Ashraf Ghani pledged to change Kabul and turn it into a modern city. 
 
Kabul in the past used to be a law abiding and environmentally friendly city. But residents are now saying that the city has become one filled with garbage and lawlessness and traffic issues are on the rise. 
 
Today tons of garbage is stockpiled around the city and the majority of drivers violate traffic rules and regulations. 
 
In recent years, millions of people have flocked to Kabul from villages in other provinces in search of better education and employment. But Kabul does not have the capacity to house these newcomers. 
 
According to unconfirmed statistics, Kabul has the capacity to house only one million people but is currently hosting more than five million people.
