Kabul Residents Call on Security Forces to Crackdown on Crime

As the reduction in violence pact begins, residents in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul on Saturday demanded that the Afghan security forces deal with a different threat: the increased criminal activity that has been plaguing the city over the past few months.

In a recent incident, armed thieves looted a jewelry shop in PD6 of Kabul.

The Ministry of Interior meanwhile said that that the police are taking the criminal act seriously.

“The ministry has been working on the issue for a while so the police can return to its real work, which is to keep law and order,” said Nasrat Rahimi, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior.

An resident described the incident at the shop:

“Two of them entered the jewelry shop and two others were standing in front of the shop. They were fully armed and looted everything, then they came back and fled the scene on their motorcycle,” said Nasrullah, an eyewitness.

“People become tired of life. There is no security even in this congested bazaar, its very unfortunate,” said Noor Hassan, an eyewitness.

“People can’t go out in the evening, because they are being killed by knife or pistol because of their mobiles,” said Ali Shah, a resident in Kabul.

“We hope that there is action against criminal cases so that we can live in peace,” said Arashadullah, a resident in Kabul.

Residents say that the police have failed to control crime in Kabul despite a recent order by President Ghani to the Afghan police forces to tackle the issue of crime in the capital city.
