Mohammad Nabi, the Taliban’s shadow district governor for Washir district of southern Helmand province, was arrested by the National Directorate of Security (NDS) on Wednesday, the provincial governor’s media office said in a statement.
Nabi was arrested during an operation which was conducted by the NDS’s special forces in Lashkargh city of the province, according to the statement.
“Mohammad Nabi has confessed during preliminary investigations that he was leading a group of 10 insurgents named “Kamil” in Beshran village and asecond 10-member group in Shah Peshta district of Washir,” it said.
However, the statement did not provide further details.
The Taliban have not yet commented.
