Bamyan Provincial Hospital Reports Increase in Child Diseases

Doctors at the Bamyan Provincial Hospital reported an increase in various diseases among children in less than a month.

They said that dozens of children suffering from measles and pneumonia are brought to this hospital daily.

According to them, currently, more than a hundred children are under treatment at this hospital, and due to the lack of patient beds, they do not have the capacity to admit more patients.

"We have more than 100 patients in bed with pneumonia, measles, and bronchiolitis, and we also have a new case of tetanus among children, which has increased among infants," said Khairullah Ahmadi, the chief physician of Bamyan Provincial Hospital.

"If families regularly vaccinate their children, it is natural that viral and bacterial diseases will decrease," said Obaidullah Siddiqi, a doctor.

The cold weather and the lack of timely vaccination are said to be the main reasons for these diseases.

Some caretakers of patients said that due to the poor economic situation, they cannot afford to treat their children in private health centers.

"We buy medicine for him, but since we came here, I have run out of money, and they bring medicine from outside for me," said Shafiqa, a resident of Bamiyan.

"My child had pneumonia for five days at home, my husband was not at home, one day my neighbor brought him to the hospital, his condition did not improve, today I have brought him again for treatment," said Masouma, a resident of Sar-e Pol.

According to the officials of Bamyan Provincial Hospital, in addition to patients from this province, patients from Maidan Wardak, Parwan, Baghlan, Sar-e Pol, and Daikundi provinces also seek treatment at this hospital.
