At least seven Afghan police soldiers were killed in a clash with Taliban insurgents on Tuesday on the Kabul-Kandahar highway in Zabul province, local officials said Wednesday.
According to Zabul police the clash happened when a group of armed Taliban attacked police check posts on the highway near Qalat city of Zabul province.
Two other police soldiers were wounded in the clash, police said.
Zabul police said that at least seven Taliban were also killed in the clash.
Meanwhile, local officials from Logar province said that four Taliban insurgents were killed, and eight others were arrested in two sperate incidents in the province.
Local officials said that eight Taliban were arrested in a special forces operation in Khoshi district of Logar province and their weapons cache was destroyed.
The four Taliban killed were traveling in a vehicle when they were targeted in an airstrike in Charkh district of Logar province.
Local officials did not provide more information and the Taliban has not yet commented.
