General Murad Ali Murad, the Deputy Chief of Army Staff said on Saturday that the Taliban have committed unforgivable war crimes in Kunduz and Badakhshan and their leader should face a criminal tribunal.

Murad said that the Taliban and their foreign terrorist groups have been defeated in the south and they have moved to the northern parts of the country in an attempt to destabilize the region.

The deputy chief of army said that Afghan security forces are determined to eliminate the insurgents and have conducted an operation under the name of Shaheen (Hawk) 22 in which nearly 150 terrorists have been killed.

Addressing security forces Saturday, Murad said: "You deserve to conduct such a heavy operation for revenge of your fellow fighters whose bodies have been sent home (for burial)."

Afghan security forces are engaged in battle with local and foreign insurgents in Faryab, Sar-e-Pul, Badakhshan, Baghlan and Kunduz provinces.

Murad said ‎operation Shaheen (Hawk) 22 has so far been a success and troops have killed over 100 insurgents in Kunduz and an additional 50 in Badakhshan province.

"Our civilians have not been affected but four security force members have been killed in Badakhshan and three in Kunduz," said Murad.

Meanwhile Gen. Hamidullah Hamid has been appointed the commander of Corp 209 Shaheen and Gen. Sayed Kamal Sadaat as the Balkh Police Chief.

These two newly appointed commanders have talked about their commitments to the security of people and the protection of democratic values in the country and added that they will not hesitate to institutionalize democratic values in the country.

Gen. Hamidullah Hamid the newly appointed commander of Corp 209 Shaheen, has served previously as the commander of Corp 205 Atal in Kandahar.

"We have identified our enemy, we know Corp 209 and its staff and their soldiers and officers are brave and courageous, we are soldiers and very satisfied with our profession and we will use our profession against enemies," said Hamid.

Meanwhile new police Chief of Balkh Gen. Sayed Kamal Sadaat speak about his commitments for providing security in the province.

Both new commanders emphasized that with good leadership in army and police ranks the security forces can help prevent insurgent activity and will not allow the insecurity to spread in the North.
