World Bank to Finance Electric Dam Project in Kunar River

The Ministry of Water and Energy has said that the World Bank has accepted to finance electric dam project on Kunar river.

The ministry said if this project is implemented, besides providing plenty of electricity it provides employment opportunities for the people.

On the other hand, construction work of a small dam in Parande region of Panjshir province has been given to a private company.

Minister of Water and Energy while expressing optimism about constructing a dam in Kunar River which produces 1200 MW says that after a lot of endeavours World Bank has accepted to finance this project.

"Constructing of Kunar Dam will secure the area and undoubtedly the electricity which this dam will provide, will meet all the needs of the country," Minister of Water and Energy Mohammad Ismael said.

Meanwhile, it is said that another small electricity dam with the capacity of 4 MW will be constructed in Parande region of Panjshir province.

A number of senators expressed optimism about the dam in Panjshir province, stressing that the government should do what it can to provide electricity in the country.

First deputy of Senate Mohammad Alam Ezedyar has said that " not only Pajshir but all of Afghanistan have the opportunity for producing water, solar and pneumatic electricity and there must be more efforts to construct more dams with high capacity".

At the same time ministry of water and energy says that this ministry plans to construct dams in Panjshir and Golbahar.
