Ashgabat to Implement Power Project for Afghanistan: DABS

Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat said that it held three days of talks with the delegations of the Çalık Energy of Turkey and Anargo Industrial Electric company of Turkmenistan.

“One of them was for a 500 kilovolt power line, for which Turkmenistan expressed full readiness and promised to form a technical and economic proposal for the project and submit it to Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat,” said Hekmatullah Maiwandi, a spokesman for DABS.

Meanwhile, residents of Kabul complained over the shortage of power, saying that they are struggling with lack of power amid hot weather.

“If you really consider it, we don’t have electricity. During the night, there is no power,” said Mirwais, a resident of Kabul.

“It is hard to keep up without power during this hot weather. We call on DABS to pay serious attention to electricity,” said Wais, a resident of Kabul.

DABS said in a statement that the talks on the TAP project were also discussed in the meeting with the delegation.

“In this meeting the transfer of power from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan (TAP) was discussed. Both sides exchanged views on the challenges existing regarding the project,” the statement reads.

The former head of DABS, Amanullah Ghalib, said that there has been no contract between Afghanistan and Pakistan over the project TAP.

“Çalık Energy offered a high tariff for Afghanistan and wanted to take custody of the power line for 30 years which is not in the benefit of DABS,” he said.

Afghanistan imports nearly 80 percent of its electricity from the Central Asian states and Iran.
