The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum auctioned 60,000 tons of crude oil extracted from the Qashqari wells in Amu Darya region.
According to the ministry, the winning firm will be sold a barrel of oil 24.80 US dollars cheaper than the international price of a barrel.
The acting minister of Mines and Petrolium said that selling crude oil that has been extracted lately has generated $27 million to the Islamic Emirate treasury.
“60,000 tons of crude oil of Amu Darya region have been sold. One barrel of crude oil will be sold at 24.80 US dollars less than the price at international markets,” said Shahabudin Dilawar, the acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum.
In the meantime, the Ministry of Mines and Petrolium said that oil extraction will also begin in eleven different areas of Herat, and added that private firms are welcome to invest.
The acting minister also said that Afghanistan will not only be self-sufficient in terms of oil and gas from its domestic resources but will also be able to export large amounts of oil abroad.
“We would be self-reliant in terms of having our own petrol, diesel, engine oil and bitumen in three years’ time,” Shahabudin Dilawar, the acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum said.
Afghanistan extracts 100,000 tons of crude oil from its Amu Darya region every day, according to reports.
Based on the information of the ministry, 24 more wells will be dug in the region which will increase the level of extracted crude oil to 200,000 tons every day.
