The Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MoIC) said that Afghanistan imported goods worth about $1.4 billion from Central Asian countries in the last year, while the country has exported goods worth $100 million.
The ministry's spokesperson, Akhundzada Abdul Salam Javad, told TOLOnews that the country's main exports to Central Asia include fresh fruit, dried fruit, and heng, and that attempts are being made to equalize imports and exports to these nations.
According to the ministry's statistics, Afghanistan imported $417 million from Turkmenistan and exported $1 million worth, $214 million from Uzbekistan and exported $19 million to Uzbekistan, Afghanistan imported $189 million from Kazakhstan and exported $32 million to Kazakhstan, $20 million from Tajikistan and exported $19 million to Tajikistan, $1 million from Kyrgyzstan and exported $7 million to Kyrgyzstan, and Afghanistan imported $315 million from Russia and exported $4 million worth of goods to Russia.
“$1.481 billion in trade has been exchanged, of which 1.38 billion are imports and $100 million are exports. Fresh fruit, dried fruit, juice, talc, potatoes, onions, medicinal herbs, and heng make up the majority of our exports,” Javad noted.
Some businessmen emphasized that serious attention should be paid to increase exports to Central Asian countries.
The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) said that to increase exports to Central Asia, an exhibition will be held in Turkmenistan in less than a month, in which Afghan businessmen will also participate.
According to ACCI, holding this exhibition will help promote the market for Afghan products.
"The purpose of this exhibition is to display Afghan products for the people of Turkmenistan,” said Jan Aqa Navid, the spokesperson of the ACCI.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MoIC), in 2023, up to two billion dollars were exported from Afghanistan, and the largest exports were to India, Pakistan, China and the United Arab Emirates.
