The Ministry of Industry and Commerce announced that the work on producing 55 megawatts of gas power in the province of Balkh will begin by a private bank.
Acting Minister of Industry and Commerce Nooruddin Azizi, stated that this private bank was also working on the project during the previous government and now intends to restart its efforts.
Azizi added that there is increased interest from the country's businessmen to invest within Afghanistan. He said, "Today, we had discussions with Ghazanfar Bank, and they want to revive a project that previously existed, about 55 megawatts of power in the city of Mazar-e-Sharif, which is the largest project."
Amanullah Ghaleb, the former head of Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), mentioned that the 55 megawatt power generation project, utilizing gas piped from Sheberghan in the Balkh province, will not only create job opportunities but also contribute to the country's self-sufficiency.
Ghaleb said, "Gas will be transported to Mazar-e-Sharif through a pipeline, which spans about 45 to 50 kilometers."
Meanwhile, some experts believe that domestic investment in infrastructure projects, including power production, is crucial for achieving self-sufficiency.
Shabir Bashiri, an economist, said, "Generating electricity from domestic resources and increasing the production level to at least finance the Afghan industrial and production sector is indeed considered a fundamental investment in Afghanistan."
Another economic expert, Qutbuddin Yaquobi, stated, "With the completion of these projects, Afghanistan will escape from external dependencies and create job opportunities for those living in the environment."
While Afghanistan primarily purchases its required energy from neighboring countries, officials in the Islamic Emirate have consistently emphasized their plans to achieve self-sufficiency in energy production.
