Pomegranate Yield Increases Substantially In Kapisa

Farmers in Tagab district of Kapisa province have welcomed progress made in the past year in the local pomegranate industry.

They said not only has this year’s yield increased but so to have prices.  

According to the farmers sweet pomegranates from Tagab district are exported to Pakistan and then on to other countries through Karachi port.

They said that last year the price for 560kg of pomegranate was 40,000 Afs while this year the price increased to 80,000 Afs.

Meanwhile, officials from Kandahar said that Afghanistan exported 1,655 tons of pomegranates to India and Pakistan this year.

Officials at the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) in Kandahar said that 1,140 tons of pomegranates have been exported to Pakistan while 515 tons have been exported to India so far this year.

According to the officials, the cultivation of pomegranates in Kandahar has increased by 43 percent this year and authorities are looking to send pomegranate samples to France as well.
