COVID-19 Infections Reach 6% in Afghanistan: Ministry

The Ministry of Public Health says that the coronavirus infection rate in the country reached to 6% in the last few weeks, and called on the people to observe health advice.

Acting Public Health Minister Ahmad Jawad Osmani warned of a second wave of COVID-19 in the country and said the peak of the virus infection was 52% when it was at its peak in the country. It means that 52% out of 9,000 tested positive for the virus but now six percent of 1,500 suspects tested positive for COVID-19.

“Despite our being in a good condition, we should not forget that coronavirus is not over yet, and we need to observe preventive measures to prevent a second wave,” Osmani said.

Doctors at a coronavirus testing center in Kabul said that risks of the virus have not been fully removed in the country.

“Five to ten suspected patients visit the hospital on a daily basis,” said Fahim Khaliqi, a medical doctor.

Doctors suggest health measures to prevent the virus but people in Kabul are paying less and less attention to health advice and are not wearing masks.

“The people should take it serious; otherwise, it will create a crisis,” said Najibullah, a Kabul resident.

“We will face more risk in a second wave if we don’t pay attention to health advice,” said Haris, a Kabul resident.

The Ministry of Public Health on Monday reported 81 new positive cases of COVID-19 out of 341 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

The ministry also reported 27 recoveries from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

So far, 112,278 samples have been tested in government centers and there are 5,077 known active COVID-19 cases in the country, according to data from the Ministry of Public Health.

The number of cumulative total recorded positive cases is now 39, 422, the number of total reported deaths is 1,466, and the total number of recoveries is 32,879.

The new cases were reported in Kabul (5), Herat (41), Kandahar (1), Takhar (2), Bamiyan (4), Kunduz (2), Daikundi (24), Parwan (1), and Wardak (1) provinces.

The number of deaths from COVID-19 globally is more than 1,037,340 and the number of known global coronavirus cases is 35,179,573, according to Johns Hopkins University.
