Dr. Khalil-ur-Rahman Narmgo, head of the surgery ward of Baghlan-e-Markazi district hospital, in Baghlan province was killed in an attack by unidentified armed men in the province this evening, sources said.
Baghlan police blamed the Taliban for the attack.
The group has not commented on the incident.
Sources said Narmgo was a well-known surgeon in the province and was involved in other cultural activities as well.
This comes amid an increase in targeted attacks in Afghanistan.
A UN report released on Tuesday shows that 3,035 civilians were killed and 5,785 were wounded in Afghanistan in 2020.
