A number of political leaders in Afghanistan on Wednesday called for a responsible withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan.

Mohammad Ismail Khan is one of the Afghan political leaders who warned that the resistance front will once again take shape if the peace negotiation process does not reach to a final conclusion.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Wali Massoud, a former Afghan ambassador to the UK, also said that the withdrawal of foreign forces from the country will further add to the current challenges in the country.

“If the peace process does not reach a purposeful destination, if the government becomes too weak to maintain security and stability, if the big cities become on the verge of collapse, in that scenario, we are fully prepared to defend our country as we have been doing for the past forty years,” said Ismail Khan.

“There is the possibility that the wars will get new momentum after May, there is the possibility that the situation will deteriorate compared to what it is now,” said Massoud.

What do ordinary Afghans say?

“The US did not accomplish its genuine responsibility towards Afghanistan. Their responsibility was to bring a powerful government, democracy, rule of law and address the people’s concerns about terrorism, drug smuggling and interferences of the regional countries,” said Mehruddin, a resident in Kabul.

“The US failed to deliver on its promises regarding the Afghans,” said a resident in Kabul Sayed Nasruddin.

Some Afghan politicians say that the US is responsible for what Afghanistan faces today.

They say that the US considers threats of terrorism inconsequential and such a move will again change Afghanistan into a hub of international terrorism.
