Muttaqi, Kabulov Discuss Bilateral Political and Commercial Relations

The Acting Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, in a meeting with Zamir Kabulov, the Russian president's envoy for Afghanistan, discussed bilateral political and commercial relations and the participation of the Islamic Emirate in regional and global "mechanisms".

The ministry said in a press release that Amir Khan Muttaqi thanked Russia for supporting Afghanistan in international meetings and emphasized that trade relations between the two countries should be further expanded.

The deputy spokesman of the foreign ministry, Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, said that during the meeting, Kabulov emphasized solving the challenges of the countries of the world with Afghanistan through bilateral relations.

According Takal, Zamir Kabulov also asked America to release the frozen assets of Afghanistan.

“Zamir Kabulov said that if any country has a problem with Afghanistan, they can bring it up with the Afghan government through bilateral relations. Moreover, Kabulov said that some countries see that the countries of the region improve their cooperation with the Afghan government, and that they want to involve themselves through new mechanism in regional issues and cause problems in the way of these improvements,” the deputy spokesman added.

Analysts have different views regarding the effect of Russia's support and cooperation with Afghanistan on establishing relations between the Islamic Emirate and other countries.

“If Russia recognizes the government of Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Armenia will also recognize Afghanistan. China, India and Iran, and Türkiye which are Russia’s allies will recognize it,” said Omid Safi, a political analyst.

“Moscow wants to keep its relations both with the Taliban, also with the opponents too,” said Wahid Faqiri, an international relations analyst.

According to the statements of the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Emirate, the Russian president's envoy for Afghanistan noted that Moscow is ready to expand trade relations between the two countries.
