Drug Trafficking Prevention Needs Joint Cooperation: Kabul Reacts to Iran

The Islamic Emirate, in response to the statements of the head of Iran's Drug Control Headquarters, said that the fight against drug trafficking requires bilateral cooperation.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, said that the fight against industrial drugs in the country is ongoing and that no active factories exist within the country.

Mujahid said: "We are fighting very seriously against industrial drugs produced in Afghanistan, and we assure that this phenomenon will also disappear. Currently, there are no active factories remaining. If production is happening secretly somewhere, and some materials that could potentially turn into drugs are being intercepted, their import into Afghanistan is also banned, as is their production."
Earlier, the head of Iran's Drug Control Headquarters, in an interview with Iranian media, said that his country is witnessing an increase in the production and entry of industrial drugs from Afghanistan.

Sardar Eskandar Momeni, Secretary General of the Drug Control Headquarters of Iran, said: "This year, based on ten-month statistics, we are witnessing a roughly 20% increase in the discovery of industrial drugs, especially methamphetamine and crystal meth."
"It is necessary for the current caretaker government to take necessary actions in agreement with neighboring countries according to international treaties in the fight against the cultivation and trafficking of drugs from Afghanistan to various countries around the world, and even if needed, to benefit from the capabilities of Afghanistan's neighboring countries to eradicate the cultivation and trafficking of drugs from Afghanistan forever," Abdul Rahman Shamal, an international relations analyst said.
"Iran's claim, sometimes about drugs from Afghanistan or about terrorist groups or Daesh, is often unsubstantiated and stems from their own competitions with Western countries, especially the United States," Ahmad Khan Andar, an international relations analyst said.

The Ministry of Interior's Counter-Narcotics Directorate has reported that recently, more than 193 of land in four provinces have been cleared of opium poppy cultivation, and four individuals have been arrested in the provinces of Nimroz and Badakhshan in connection with the sale and trafficking of drugs.
