Islamic Emirate Officials, Not West, Responsible for Women's Rights: Hanafi

Muhammad Khalid Hanafi, the acting minister of vice and virtue, at a gathering in Maidan Wardak province said that regarding women's rights in Afghanistan, the caretaker government officials are responsible, not Westerners.

Hanafi said that women's rights in the country are secured, and the concerns of Western countries regarding this issue are unfounded.

The acting Minister of vice and virtue said, "Infidel countries say rights, rights, Islam has given rights to our sisters and if someone does not give them their rights, that person is to blame."

Speaking at the gathering, Hanafi said that no one has the right to forcibly marry off girls and he asked the security agencies to identify and arrest those who commit such acts.

Muhammad Khalid Hanafi said: "A father had given his daughter to someone in exchange for two cars and a million in cash. The officials did not inquire about why he was committing this oppression. Will not Allah ask us about this? It's not only the scholars' duty, but our friends in intelligence should also investigate and inform us. If we do not do this, we are responsible to God."

Meanwhile, religious scholars and women's rights activists have different viewpoints regarding women's rights.

"It's been more than two years since they have been saying that they will secure women's rights within the framework of the holy religion of Islam; unfortunately, the Sharia rights of women have not been secured in these two years," said Abdul Qader Qanet, a religious scholar.

"Today, we see that the doors of schools and universities are closed to women, how can we claim that women's rights are considered," Tafsir Syahposh, a women's rights activist, told TOLOnews.

Earlier, various countries and global institutions have expressed concern over what they described as the violation of women's rights, especially girls in the country, and mentioned respect for human rights as one of their conditions for recognizing the Islamic Emirate.
