The Kabul Municipality has announced the relocation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their original places of residence next week.

Nematullah Barakzai, a representative of the Kabul Municipality, states that these displaced persons are currently residing on municipal lands and, in coordination with the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriates, the relocation process is scheduled to begin next week.

Barakzai commented, "Next week, the task of removing these individuals and transferring them, while also implementing the plan in areas they have occupied, will be carried out by the Kabul Municipality in coordination with various departments including the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriates."

However, some IDPs have expressed concerns that many of them have nowhere to go and are requesting the Kabul Municipality to provide them with a specific place to live.

Sanaullah, an IDP speaking to TOLOnews, said, "I did not come here because there was a place for us in the province or this was a better place, no! There is no space in the province; if there was, we wouldn’t have spent a day here and would have gone back to our place."

Another displaced person, Hayatullah, said, "The Kabul Municipality tells us to leave, but when we go back to our provinces, there’s no place, not even land."

Previously, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported that Afghanistan, with nearly 6.3 million internally displaced persons, has the second highest number of IDPs in the world.
