Dead Bride’s Family Calls For Justice

A day after his bride was killed in an accidental shooting by security guards of a senior government official in Sar-e-Karez area in Kabul’s PD3 on Saturday night, Sayed Ali said his wife was shot by the second deputy CEO Mohammad Mohaqiqi’s bodyguards and that he wants justice for the “heinous act”.

“I will never be able to go to my bedroom without her. Life has become very difficult for me,” Ali said.

Jamila, 24, was a medical doctor. She was supposed to step into their bedroom decorated by her husband.

“Nine bullets hit her body. Our car was suddenly under the rain of bullets,” Ali said as he recounted the incident.

Mohaqiq’s office said in a statement on Tuesday that some men accompanying the convoy of the couple had weapons and opened fire in celebration when they arrived close to the check post outside his house.

The guards responded to the shooting, the statement said.

According to the statement, a few people from the two sides have been arrested and are under investigation in connection with the incident.
Yasin, 23, a family member of the groom, also lost his life in the shooting.

The couple’s families said they were not very close to Mohaqiq’s house when the celebration shooting started.

“Some of our friends fired in the air when we were two (bus) stations away from Mohaqiq’s house,” Ali’s brother, Sayed Jawed said.

“We want justice from government. Those who did this action must be brought to justice,” said Sayed Reza Haidari, Ali’s uncle.

Commenting on the incident, the interior ministry spokesman Najib Danish said: “Four people have been arrested. Two of them are security guards of Mr. Mohaqiq and two others are from amongst the convoy and were armed.”
