If the Taliban accepts the US’s call for a ceasefire, Afghanistan’s Presidential Palace will start peace talks with the Taliban directly, said Ghani spokesman Sediq Sediqqi.

But former Taliban members said that the Taliban will not announce a ceasefire until they reach a deal with the US.

Meanwhile, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at a press conference on Friday said he welcomes “contacts” between the United States and the Taliban and said that the US consults with NATO allies “regularly” regarding peace efforts in Afghanistan.
