Death Toll Rises to 110 in Parwan Flash Floods

The death toll from the recent flash floods in Pawran province has risen to 110 as rescue workers are trying to recover more victims from the debris. Officials said 120 others were wounded.

Families of the victims blames the government for not expediting the rescue and relief operation in the flood-hit area, stating that bodies of their loved ones are still lying under the debris.

Nasib serves in the Afghan Air Force. He has lost nine members of his family in the catastrophe. He is still searching for the body of her wife.

“My neighbor and I lost ten members of our families. One of my family member is still missing, I don’t know what to do,” said Nasib.

“The government has done nothing. The dead bodies are lying under the debris,. There are no resources,” said Khan Shirin, a resident of Parwan.

Mawloda is another survivor who has lost all her belongings in the floods.

“We need help. Six of of children were wounded. We are living in open air,” said Mawloda.

“24 houses were damaged here. People need cash, blankets and machinery,” said Abdul Karim, a survivor.

What government says?

“The process of delivery of Afs50,000 cash money to the families of the martyrs, Afs25,000 to those wounded is underway,” said Ghulam Bahauddin Jailani, a spokesman for the State Ministry for Natural Disaster Management.

“Efforts are underway for the recovery of the dead bodies and to help those affected,” said Fazluddin Ayar, the governor of Parwan.
