A number of residents of Parwan complain about the indiscriminate cutting of Judas trees in the Gulghondi hill of this province.
They asked local officials to stop the cutting of Judas trees in this recreational area.
"When it becomes winter, people become strangers, do not have money to buy wood, come secretly, cut the Judas tree bushes, and take them for burning," said Sayed Azim, a resident of Parwan.
"Animals come, cause damage, eat the Judas tree bushes, cut the Judas trees, and people take them for burning," said Gholam Ali, another resident of Parwan.
The Gulghondi hill is located in the outskirts of Charikar city, the center of Parwan province, and due to having Judas trees, it is considered one of the recreational places, especially in the spring season.
Meanwhile, Sayed Eimal Nikmal Agha, the mayor of Parwan, said that the Chinese embassy in Kabul has decided to implement several development projects in this province, of which building a wall around the recreational area of Gulghondi hill is a priority.
"The Chinese embassy had asked us for four projects, one of which we proposed to encircle the four sides of Gulghondi to the Chinese embassy, and after that, it will be properly protected," he said.
A number of cultural activists said that if the hill is not maintained, Afghanistan will lose one of its tourist attractions.
"We demand serious attention from the officials for the preservation and maintenance of Judas trees because if this gradually disappears, we are sure that we will lose one of the tourist places in the country," said Yamin Rastin, a cultural activist in Parwan.
Currently, 5 people from the Parwan municipality are responsible for the irrigation and maintenance of the trees in this recreational place.
