The first meeting of special representatives of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries been kicked off on Tuesday in Tashkent.  

The meeting was attended by envoys from Uzbekistan, China, Iran, Pakistan, Russian, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.  

The “delegations are discussing the current situation in Afghanistan, cooperation of the parties in establishing long-term peace and stability,” the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said on Twitter.  

“In such regional competition, Afghanistan is used as a strategic location and every country tries to take advantage of it for its side,” said Walif Frozan, an international relations analyst.  

The Islamic Emirate said that it welcomes any meeting which benefits Afghanistan: “All meetings held for cooperation and assistance with Afghanistan in the field of humanitarian issues, and for strengthening the government, and in all other areas which are effective for the country,” said Bilal Karimi, deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate.  

Political analysts said that the holding of such meetings is effective for the improvement of the country’s situation.  

“The regional meetings are important for Afghanistan in the current situation,” said Sayed Muqdam, a political analyst.  

“These countries want to have closer and extended engagement with the caretaker government of Afghanistan so further humanitarian assistance can be provided to the people of Afghanistan,” said Najib Rahman Shamal, a political analyst.  

In less than two years, over 10 international meetings at a regional level or higher have been held on Afghanistan.  


