TAWDA KHABARE: US ‘Working on an Agreement With the Taliban’
More than two months after the cancellation of the previous year-long talks between the US and the Taliban in Doha, President Donald Trump seemed to indicate in a phone-in interview with Fox News on Saturday morning that negotiations with the Taliban were back on.
Trump elaborated on the earlier peace deal--and its breakdown--to the hosts of the show “Fox & Friends: “The last time I was supposed to have an agreement, then they (the Taliban) thought when they came over, they thought it would be good to kill people so they could negotiate from a position of strength. They killed 12 people in order to show they’re tough guys, and I canceled the meeting. I said, ‘That’s not what we’re dealing with.’”
In this program, host Noorwali Saeed Shinwari discusses the topic with the following panelists:
• Khalid Khalid, international relations analyst
• Sayed Qarib Sadat, political affairs analyst
• Ali Raza, Mahmood, head of Jamea-e-Mardum-e-Afghanistan, a civil society organization based in Kabul
• Frozan Daudzai, political affairs analyst
