Decision on Assets 'Blatant Theft': Kabul Professors

Lecturers of public and private universities held a gathering on Saturday in Kabul, where they called US President Joe Biden’s move to allocate Afghan assets for US-controlled aid and as compensation for  9/11 victims “blatant theft” by Washington.

The instructors said that allocating Afghan assets for humanitarian needs will affect the value of the afghani.

“The instructors of the Afghanistan universities call the decree of US president: robbing, looting and  oppressive toward the people of Afghanistan, and they condemn it,” said instructor Akbar Meer.

The instructors called Biden’s decision unfair.

“We will be harmed if the Afghan assets, which are more than $9 billion, are not released,” said Najibullah Amerkhail, a university instructor.

The instructors said Biden’s decision will cause the collapse of the Afghan economy.

This comes as residents of Herat province staged demonstrations on Saturday to protest the decision made by Biden regarding the Afghan assets.

“We call on the United Nations-- the money belongs to the people of Afghanistan—return this money to Afghanistan—stand by our side and give us our rights,” said Saleh Fatimi, a protestor.

This comes as a member of the European Parliament, Clare Daly, in a speech to the EU parliament criticized the decision.

“Biden’s theft will mean millions of Afghans suffering and dying for a crime that had nothing to do with them, it makes me sick, shame on the US for its crimes against humanity and shame on the EU for its complicity and silence,” she said.

Earlier, the Afghan money exchangers and private sector members staged a protest in reaction to Biden’s decision.
