Drug Treatment Center to Be Opened in Kabul: Ministry

The counter-narcotics department of the Interior Ministry said that a drug treatment center will be built in Kabul to treat addicted people.

The department said that this center will have the capacity to treat twenty thousand addicts at the same time.

"We have a plan to make a drug treatment center in the Pul-e-Charkhi area of Kabul and treat 20,000 addicted people," said Hasib Ullah Ahmadi, head of the Counter-Narcotics Department.

Some of the addicted people called on the government to pay attention to their treatment so they can return to their families.

Obaidullah is a 52-year-old man who became addicted to drugs in Iran and said that he spent his days and nights on the roads and is completely apart from his family.

"I am addicted to this bad habit, I have a family, wife, children, everything, but they are far away from me because I am addicted to drugs," said Obaidullah, a drug user.

I want to be treated as if it is a hospital ... that will be so good ...," said Abdullah, a drug user.

Some Kabul residents said that drug addicts should be prevented from roaming the roads.

"We ask the Islamic Emirate to build a clinic and treat them and collect them from the roads," said Basir, a Kabul resident.

According to the numbers of the counter-narcotics department from two years ago, there are 4 million people addicted to drugs in the country.
